I ... entered the poem of life, whose purpose is ... simply to witness the beauties of the world, to discover the many forms that love can take. (Barabara Blackman in 'Glass After Glass')

The Misunderstanding

I said into her mind, ‘Today you can
come with me if you wish.’ I only meant
she could attach her mind to mine and see
and hear and feel and do alongside: scan
my own experiences and share. I sent,
I thought, that message. Sadly, she
received it literally, stood by the door
as if with whiskers spruced, bag packed, intent
and ready, proud to come along with me
on business. Had to tell her, ‘Sorry – you’re
Cat, see.’

Written for the curtal sonnet challenge at Poetic Asides.

  1. This made me laugh! Watch out; she'll want to drive!

  2. Oh, so sad. But lovely you can commune telepathically. I have been reading about lions who DEFINITELY communicate that way, sometimes with humans, if the humans are aware and friendly. And Mama Zen's comment made me remember Pup, who ruled the roost, even in the car. Started not wanting to get in unless I threw a treat in. When we began tussling over the driver's seat, I knew I was in trouble. LOL.

  3. Ah yes, you are both right, LOL. In the house, she loves to claim MY chair and MY spot on the couch!

  4. Was it the poem or that look in the picture?

    1. Alas, I didn't get a snap of her in 'Let's go' mode; this was the nearest I could find.
